February 2nd - A Lullaby of the Best Intentions
A Lullaby of the Best Intentions
The summer flowers share their sunshine secrets
A pollen whisper wind of the clouds in concert
Seed pillows dance across endless opportunity
Warm memories dream together in dewdrop harmony
So let your heavy eyelids hug close
With the flutter of a careful kiss
And smile away to sleep, my sweets
And faithfully follow your will-o-wisp
The scent sounds of night are hushed and light
The dew day’s bright flight is tucked out of sight
Allowing the shine of your mind freely to find
A free presence from space and all tethering time
So count the pedals on memory flowers
Look through the windows of snowflake crystals
Listen close to the symphony of numbers
And open the door on sleep’s secret sigils
What words we weave wonder into warmer clothes
To linger longer at staying still and keeping close
And with what soft moonlight we can’t catch in our fingers
We’ll remember together in our thoughtful forevers
So sigh once for the last star tonight
A dawn drawn design on anoth’r day
T’night we’ll sleep in the same loving air
A satisfaction of thoughts in joyful play
Are you still yet awake my darling dear?
Just close your tired eyes and lay quietly there
Absolutely nothing will happen ‘til morning
There is nothing to do and no place we are going
So please drift off to sleep already
It only works if you close your eyes
You’ve got your stuffed friends right there with you
Even they’re passing out to these long goodbyes
Our home is warm and your bed is so cozy
And I’m dangerously low on new poetry
You should be asleep now and it’s so very tiring
You’ve a beautiful smile, but now it feels sort of mocking
So lay your head on your pillow now
And please stop sitting up in your bed
It’s not that I’d rath’r be anywhere else
But there’s dishes to do and work still ahead
Fine. Let’s play a game. How long can you stay still?
Just try it. It’ll be fun. I promise. For real.
Ugh. I appreciate that you’re not easily fooled
But you’ve had your sip of water and it’s past time for food
So sleep and sleep all the wonderful sleep
You are even making your bed feel sad
I’m sorry, forget that last thing I just said
But it’s late. Even the sun is in bed
Ok, now. I really mean it this time
Without the dreams of children, the stars can’t shine
If you don’t get some sleep, you’ll be crabby t’morrow
Maybe I’d better just chloroform your pillow
I promise tomorrow we’ll go to the park
If you’ll just go to bed right now
No? You’re not going to do it? No matter what?
Fine. You want to watch some TV or just chat or something? What do you want to do?
